TV Tray Ironing Board

One day I came across this tutorial from Oh, Fransson! for turning a TV tray into an ironing board and my first thought was....This is the best idea ever!!! I always found it to be such a pain to press hems while sewing, but now I can do it without even getting up.

I made the table before I started my blog so I don't have progress pictures, but I do have pictures of the finished product.

You Will Need:

1. A TV tray ~ I had the TV tray already but you can buy them at Wal-Mart, Bed, Bath and Beyond, etc. They come in several shades of wood so you can choose what ever finish matches the room you want to keep it in.

2. Natural Fiber Batting ~ I used 4 pieces. I would recommend cutting each piece a little larger than the last to make sure it wraps around the table and the previous pieces of batting.

3. Home Decorating Weight Cotton Fabric ~ 1 piece that is large enough to wrap around the table and the batting. Plus a little extra to fold the edge under.

4. Scissors

5. Staples & A Staple Gun

6. Hammer or Tac Hammer

**Make sure the batting and fabric are natural fiber / cotton so they don't melt when you use the iron.

I stapled along one side at a time, doing the corners last. I turned the fabric under the batting as I went, so it wouldn't fray. Then I hammered down the staples that didn't make it all the way in.

The hardest part was keeping the pattern straight. So a helper might have been helpful, or a fabric pattern that didn't have to be straight.

My favorite thing is that it folds flat so I can just stick in between the wall and my desk when it is not in use.

I use this all the time now when I need to press hems before sewing. I even use it instead of my ironing board when I need to quick press something small.
